Ever tried getting a mustard stain out of a white shirt? It’s next to impossible. Something so small leaves a mark you can’t ignore.

Bigger is better, right? At least that’s what we’re told. Have y’all noticed how much bigger cars and houses have gotten since the 1980s? Pay attention today; it’s actually wild.

I think our obsession with “bigness” shows how much we believe size equals importance. But should we?

Jesus compared the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed—something tiny, almost microscopic. It didn’t look like much at the start, but once planted, it grew into a tree big enough for birds to come and rest in its branches.

The Kingdom starts small in the eyes of the world, yet under Christ’s rule it grows into something far greater than anyone expects.

No matter how small or insignificant that seed looks at the beginning, when it’s in Jesus’ hands it grows according to God’s design and becomes what he intends it to be.

If you feel like an insignificant seed today, be encouraged by the mustard seed. God loves to start with what seems small. But remember: You have to be planted to grow—rooted in Christ, not just inspired for a moment.

That planting begins by turning to Jesus in faith: believing the Gospel (John 3:16), confessing him as Lord, and trusting him as your Savior.

From there, growth continues as you keep coming to God in prayer, asking for the Spirit’s ongoing filling and help, and diving into the Word daily so you can learn to live under Jesus’ reign.

As you grow in him, you don’t just get bigger for your own sake—you become a place of shade and rest for others, pointing them to the true shelter found in Christ.
