You didn’t come to worship…You came to watch.
You can sit in church and still miss Jesus. In Luke 6, the Pharisees were in the synagogue or “church”. Scripture open.
Attendance checked.
Position secured. And a man with a withered hand walks in. Jesus calls him forward. Before healing him, He asks: “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath?” Silence. Not because they didn’t know the answer. Because they were hoping He wouldn’t. Jesus says, “Stretch out your hand.” And instantly — it’s restored.
No praise.
No celebration.

Tired Is Not A Release Clause...
Sometimes Jesus asks you to do something right when you’re at your lowest. In Gospel of Luke 5, Peter had fished all night. No bites. No money. No progress. Just wet nets and sore muscles. They were cleaning up. Clocking out. Thinking about bed. And that’s when Jesus said, “Push back out.” Not tomorrow. Not after rest. Now. Peter even says it out loud: “Lord, we worked hard all night and caught nothing…” Translation: “We already tried that.” But then comes the turning point:

“That was a good sermon, preacher…”
Y’all look plum mad most of the time. I don’t think you mean to. When I look like that, I’m usually just thinking. Y’all probably are too. I’ve said it before — I want to preach like Jesus did. I imagine the amens rolling. The that’s rights shaking the walls. The house full to the brim with folks hungry for truth. But I need to be careful what I ask for. Gospel of Luke 4:28–30 caught me off guard. Jesus preaches the truth — straight and clean. They hear it. They hate it. And

Is this why you feel drained?
I write this morning to a Christ follower who feels weak—or knows they’ll need God’s strength for what’s ahead. Maybe you’ve been leaning more on your own energy than on His. The truth? Real strength is never self‑made. It flows from the presence of God. Samson learned this the hard way. Chosen by God as a Nazarite, he was given incredible strength to lead Israel. But instead of using it for God’s purpose, he used it for himself. His heart drifted toward Delilah, and compromi

Confidence Has Ruined More Christians Than Weakness Ever Has...
Confidence Has Ruined More Christians Than Weakness Ever Has... Most people don’t fall because they’re powerless. They fall because they feel untouchable. When God has blessed us…when we’re spiritually strong…when nothing has blown up yet…we start believing we can stand closer to the fire than everyone else. In Judges 16:4–9, Delilah already has Samson’s number. She keeps asking where his strength comes from. The Philistines are hiding in the next room. He lies. She tests him

“You ol’ hard-headed…”
Full disclosure: I am hard-headed. Been that way so long I can’t remember when it started. No, I ain’t proud of it. I’ve asked the Lord to sand that edge off more times than I can count. But like Paul and that thorn, it’s still there. So I fight it daily. What can motivate a man to be less hard-headed? Maybe this: In Ecclesiastes 4:13 it says, “A poor yet wise lad is better than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive instruction.” That’ll preach. The boy’s

You’ve already been told
Jesus said He would rise. He did. The women came with spices anyway. Not because they hated Him — but because they didn’t believe Him. At the tomb, they were told again: “He has risen… go tell.” Clear. Simple. Direct. Verse 8 says they fled…and said nothing to anyone. Fear shut their mouths. Let that sit. The first response to the resurrection was silence. And today? We know He rose. We’ve heard the command. We have the Spirit. And yet… Many of us are just as quiet. Not becau

It’s easy to follow Jesus… until it isn’t.
Faithfulness is easy when life feels like sunny and 75. But Jesus Christ was jailed. Mocked. Beaten. Spit on. Crucified. And He told us plainly in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble.” Trouble is not a detour. It’s part of the road. What shakes me is this:
Even when Jesus cried, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” — He did not abandon obedience. He stayed on the cross. He stayed faithful. Let me ask you something that confronts me: If everyone around you

You don’t have to keep failing
Some of you are stuck in the same cycle. You fall short.
You promise you’ll do better.
Then you fall again. You love Jesus — but you keep denying Him in your thoughts, your words, or your actions. And you’re tired of it. Peter knew that feeling. In Mark 14, Jesus tells His disciples that they will fall away. Peter boldly speaks up and insists he will never deny Christ. He is confident. Strong. Certain. But later that same night, in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus invites Pete

I Was Sure I Could Handle It…
Papa Hays was one of my heroes. I watched him drive nails into plywood like it was nothing— Pop, pop... pop. At six years old, I wanted in. He handed me the hammer. I swung with confidence. Missed. Swung again. Missed worse. After twenty tries, I had one bent nail barely hanging on for dear life. He just grinned… took the hammer back… and sank the nail deep—where it would hold when the storms came. That memory came rushing back when I read Ecclesiastes 12:11: “The words of wi

I’ve been stealing from God…
I’ve been stealing from God… You know the story in Mark 12:1–12. A man builds a vineyard from scratch. Fence. Tower. Winepress. Investment. Vision. Ownership. He leases it out. Harvest comes. He sends servants to collect what is rightfully his. They beat one. Bloody another. Kill another. Finally, he sends his son. They drag him outside the vineyard…and murder him. Every time I read that parable, I thought: How wicked can you be? But this morning something shifted. I saw my f

Jesus Flipped Tables… So Can I!
Talk about rustling feathers. Last week I posted a video where a boss fired an employee for not being 15 minutes early. The boss was unreasonable. The employee was furious. He was about to respond with violence — until the voice of Jesus reminded him of the unjust suffering He endured on the way to the cross. And the comments came fast:“Jesus flipped tables.”“Righteous anger.”“Don’t forget the temple.” Yes — Mark 11:15–18 is clear. Jesus flipped tables. But look closer. The t

You wanna be great, huh?
In The Natural, Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford) basically says, “I’m going to be the greatest.” That line stirs something in all of us. Because we want it too. The seat. The title. The applause. But then Jesus flips the table. In Gospel of Mark 10:35–45, James and John ask for the top spots in the Kingdom. Jesus doesn’t rebuke ambition. He redefines greatness: “Whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant.” That’s not poetic. That’s violent to our pride. The King came

Do they need a diagnosis—or a demon cast out?
Today, I’m not here to make a statement. I’m here to listen. I’m asking you to do two things: 1. Pause and think 2. Share your thoughts honestly In Mark 9:17–29, a father brings his son to Jesus. The boy is violent, self-destructive, and completely out of control. The father believes something deeper than physical sickness is happening—and Jesus ultimately casts out a demon and frees the child. That raises a tension we still feel today. If demonic possession was real in Jesus

You’ve cursed others too…
When I got the report that I had been wrongfully slandered by one of my close “friends”, my first response was fury. How could they go behind my back and talk a bunch of junk that held no truth. My flesh was quick to recommend a slew of words about them that were not very glorious toward them or my Father in heaven. You’ve been here. I am certain. The words hurt, and we want to vindicate ourselves, our pride. These scenarios do not surprise God, and He has given us some helpf

We love our traditions…
Mawmaw Grace was going to ask someone to pray at 11:00 a.m. sharp on Thanksgiving Day, and then she was going to tell everyone to start eating. That tradition was non-negotiable. Everyone knew it. And honestly—I looked forward to it every year. Traditions can be beautiful. They give structure, memory, and meaning. But traditions can also become dangerous. In Mark 7:1–13, Jesus confronts the most religious people of His day and exposes a hard truth: they had elevated the tradi

I must be blind too...
I have read the passage about the loaves and the fishes in Mark 6 more times than I can count. I love the story. However, I guess I never paid close attention to the end of that passage until this morning. You know the story--Jesus feeds the crowd of over 5,000 people with a few loaves of bread and fish. After everyone finishes eating, Jesus instructs the disciples to go around with baskets and pick up the leftovers. I always admire how Jesus performs the miracle and assume H

If you are waiting for the crowd to approve, consider this…
Crowds have a strange power over us.They can motivate us to perform—or quietly paralyze us into doing nothing.Sometimes it’s not even a real crowd. It’s the imagined response. What will they think? What if they misunderstand? What if this costs me something? In Mark 5, Jesus steps off a boat and is immediately met by one man—broken, isolated, uncontrollable, living among tombs. Chains hadn’t worked. Fear hadn’t worked. Distance hadn’t worked. Everyone else had given up and lear

Peace Can Be Dangerous
Peace Can Be Dangerous I had a health scare in my late 20s.
Buddy—I was a praying, Bible-reading, God-seeking man during those days of uncertainty. Fear had my attention.
Need had my focus.
Dependence on God felt natural. Months later, that threat was gone—but another quietly took its place: peace. How could peace be a threat? Because in seasons of peace, we tend to drift back into self-sufficiency. We loosen our grip on dependence. We confuse stability with spiritual health

What am I doing?!
What are you doing?! You don’t have everything put togetherevery minute of every dayof every monthof every year of your life. Guess what…I don’t either. Some days, I know exactly what to do and how to do it.Other days, I have no clue—and I wander until I end up somewhere. The tension for me is this:I don’t want to waste the little time I have on this earth. And I want to avoid regret as much as possible. So if you wrestle with the same things I do,how do we move forward and k
