I must be blind too...

I have read the passage about the loaves and the fishes in Mark 6 more times than I can count. I love the story.

However, I guess I never paid close attention to the end of that passage until this morning.

You know the story--Jesus feeds the crowd of over 5,000 people with a few loaves of bread and fish. After everyone finishes eating, Jesus instructs the disciples to go around with baskets and pick up the leftovers.

I always admire how Jesus performs the miracle and assume His getting the 12 disciples to gather the leftovers was a visual lesson to strengthen their faith.

However, until today, I never noticed that the twelve disciples did not fully grasp the miracle—or the fullness of Jesus—who performed it.

See for yourself in verse 52, "For they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their heart was hardened."

WHAT?! How could they not understand what they just witnessed Jesus do? They literally picked the lesson up off the ground, piece by piece.

Two things I take away from this:

1. A hardened heart can cause you to miss the miracles and powerful things God is doing in and around your life (I don't want to have a hardened heart and miss these).

2. Before I criticize the disciples for missing what was so obvious, remember that I am also capable of missing important things too (I have picked up my Bible many times and failed to see this truth until today).

As you start--or continue--your day, be aware of your own potential for blindness.

We don't want to miss the awesome things Jesus is doing all around us and fail to rightly credit and worship Him.
