You’ve cursed others too…

When I got the report that I had been wrongfully slandered by one of my close “friends”, my first response was fury. How could they go behind my back and talk a bunch of junk that held no truth. My flesh was quick to recommend a slew of words about them that were not very glorious toward them or my Father in heaven.
You’ve been here. I am certain. The words hurt, and we want to vindicate ourselves, our pride.
These scenarios do not surprise God, and He has given us some helpful guidance.
Ecclesiastes 7:21-22 - Also, do not take seriously all words which are spoken, so that you will not hear your servant cursing you. For you also have realized that you likewise have many times cursed others.
For me, here are two key truths to put in my pocket:
1. I have and am regularly tempted to “curse” or speak poorly of other people.
2. If I have cursed them and understand the temptation to do it again, then I should be quicker to overlook someone who has fallen into the temptation even though I was in the crosshairs of it.
At the end of the day, folks are gonna think and say what they want to say—we can’t control that.
However, we can control how much we let it negatively affect the present, the gift God has given us to enjoy.
Go on and have a good day--they probably just talking to hear themselves talk anyway.
