I Didn't Hate Reading

I didn’t hate reading.

I hated stopping what I wanted to do.

As a kid, I never wanted to come inside.

There was always something better to do, and sitting still felt like punishment.

After reminding me of a school deadline more times than I can count, my mom stopped arguing.

She placed the book on my pillow.

I couldn’t go to sleep without dealing with it.

The real issue wasn’t reading.

It was that I didn’t want to stop playing long enough to read.

That’s how wisdom works.

Sometimes you have to stop doing what you want to do

in order to accomplish what you need to do.

Slowing down gives you the opportunity to identify what’s actually worth investing your time in.

Proverbs 5:1–2 teaches that wisdom requires attention, listening, and retention.

None of that happens at full speed.

What wisdom am I avoiding right now because I don’t want to slow down?
