Maddest I Have Ever Been At My Husband

My husband never buys cards. Not for birthdays. Not for anniversaries. Not for anything. So when he handed me an actual card for our 15-year anniversary, I already knew something was up.
It was during the pandemic — one of those weird, blurry years where time didn’t feel real, and nobody was going anywhere. But still, I opened that card with curiosity… and just a little bit of hope.
On the front was a map of the Mediterranean Sea. Italy. Greece. Beautiful blue water. My heart stopped.
Then I read the words inside:“For our 15-year anniversary, I’m taking you on a 15-day tour of the Mediterranean.”
Y’all. I was stoked. Like, heart-racing, suitcase-packing, mentally-sipping-espresso-in-Venice kind of excited. I thought, We’re finally doing it. After all these years, we were actually going somewhere. We hadn’t been on a real trip since our one-year anniversary. And this was Italy.
Then I kept reading.
The next line hit harder than any turbulence over the Atlantic:“Due to travel restrictions, however, I guess we won’t be able to do this. Maybe at our 30-year mark…”
I just sat there, blinking.
Y’all. I have never — and I mean never — been more mad at that man.
I looked at him like, Why would you do this to me?He just smiled like it was funny. Like it was a clever little joke. Meanwhile, I was emotionally unpacking the Amalfi Coast from my heart.
He meant well. He always does. And I’ve mostly forgiven him… mostly. But I’ll be honest — that card still lives rent-free in my memory as the most misleading anniversary moment of my life.
Here’s hoping we make it to year 30.
And Italy.
