The expression on his face changed instantly.
So did his posture.
And I hadn’t even finished speaking the harsh, thoughtless sentence.
That’s when I knew—I had already done damage.
That’s why Scripture doesn’t just warn us about lying.
It warns us about careless speech.
Words shape trust.
Words frame character.
Words reveal what’s really been sitting in the heart.
Here’s the part we often miss: Guarded words don’t just prevent regret—they preserve relationships.
They give people room to feel safe around you.
They keep moments from turning into memories you wish you could erase.
You don’t guard your mouth because you’re afraid of messing up.
You guard it because once words are released, they start doing work you can’t undo.
