The serpent wants just a word with you…

He won’t take much of your time. And he probably won’t upset you too bad with what he says.

Let’s go back to Eden in Genesis 3. Adam and Eve are there, and the crafty serpent shows up, walking at this point.

Eve is not shocked or surprised when he asks her one simple little question, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”

The serpent was just curious, ya know? Well, then he makes a follow-up statement that sows a tiny seed of doubt. That seed rooted and grew in Eve’s mind, then she and Adam were breaking the one command God had given them.

Sin often begins with curiosity rather than open rebellion.

The serpents tactic: ask a question, create doubt, make a false statement.

Just like that, Adam and Eve’s relationship with God changed forever. The serpent doesn’t appear to be a fire-breathing dragon swooping down and scaring the wits out of them. He just sorta rolls up and starts a harmless little conversation.

Well, it worked then, and it works now…ask me how I know.

This has worked on me more times than I am willing to admit.

Today, be warned—be aware. The devil knows this little plan works on us. He also has great patience and perseverance. Not to mention the sinful flesh we battle all the time too.

Strive to remain in the presence of God through the power of God.

The enemy may be prowling like a lion, or could be prowling as something that he knows you’re pretty fond of and already interested in.

Be careful who you entertain.
