The stone didn’t roll away so Jesus could get out.

I love to travel, but I wasn’t sure a museum was what I had in mind for a family trip.
My mom found a place in Georgia that recreated moments from biblical history, and the experience helped me see the historical setting of the Bible in a way I never had before. It obviously wasn’t the same as going to Israel or Rome, but it helped you picture what you are reading.
Although I was a little apprehensive before the trip, it gave me a perspective that has stuck with me ever since.
Reading Luke 24 this morning took me right back there.
One of the key things I learned is that Jesus was not buried in the ground the way we typically bury people in the United States. His tomb would have been cut into a rock hillside in such a way that you could actually walk into it.
When the women came to the tomb that morning, they weren’t looking at a grave in the ground. They were walking into a tomb expecting to find the body of Jesus.
Instead, they found the stone rolled away. And the tomb empty.
I cannot imagine the mixture of shock, fear, and overwhelming joy when they realized what had happened. Even reading about it today fills me with powerful emotion.
As I go into Saturday, I am thankful for a living Savior who only needed to borrow a tomb for a few days.
And by the way…
The stone wasn’t rolled away so Jesus could get out.
It was rolled away so His followers could look in and see that He was gone.
So if you feel like you have little—or nothing—to hope for today…
Hope in Jesus, the One the grave could not hold.
And all the people said… Amen. ✝️
